University of California, San Francisco (UCSF)'s Laboratory for Educational Neuroscience in partnership with the Childhood Center for Creativity (CCC) is performing an international search for a Creativity Fellow.  The ideal candidate will have strong interest in the neurobiological/psychological basis of creativity and how creativity influences learning, with a particular focus on early childhood development. The candidate must have strong research background in cognitive psychology, computational neuroscience, cognitive neuroscience, neuroimaging, genetics, or related fields together with excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills. PhDs, MDs or equivalent are encouraged to apply.
The position can begin as early as October 1, 2012, with a duration of 1-3 years, pending availability of funds. Salary is competitive, and depends on experience. Thanks to the CCC, relocation fees and personal research funds will be provided.

The post is based in the Neuroscience and Music lab (headed by Dr. Jessica Grahn), which explores the links between music, rhythm, and movement using neuroscientific methods. Why do we move to music? How are rhythmic sequences processed in human and animal brains? Can rhythm have therapeutic benefits for patients with movement disorders?

The post-holder will play a key role in neuroimaging investigations of musical rhythm perception, involving fMRI (at 3T and 7T) and testing of patients with motor disorders (e.g., Parkinson’s disease). A background in cognitive neuroscience or experimental psychology and expertise in fMRI or patient testing is preferred. No musical background is necessary. The successful applicant will enjoy working as part of an interdisciplinary team and be able to mentor junior members of the lab.

Mary C. Potter is seeking a research assistant (Technical Assistant) starting on July 1, 2012 or as soon as possible. A commitment of at least one year is required.

My current research is on conceptual short-term attention and memory, including the attentional blink, picture encoding and memory, the interaction between sentence processing and picture processing, and the influence of sentence context on visual word perception and selection. The Technical Assistant will have primary responsibility for running the
lab, including supervising undergraduate research assistants, programming
and running experiments, and analyzing data. The research community in our
department provides an excellent, stimulating work environment, with
opportunities to become acquainted with the work of students and faculty.

Requirements for this research-oriented position include a B.A. or B.S
degree, some experience in experimental research (preferably in cognition,
language, or perception), and experience with programming. Experience with
Matlab, Python, or the equivalent is essential.

PhD position in Computational Neuroscience at Italian Institue of Technology - Trento

PhD studentships (including fully funded scholarships) are available in the Laboratory of Neural Computation at the Center for Neuroscience and Cognitive Systems of the Italian Institute of Technology based in Trento, Italy.
The laboratory of Neural Computation is interested in understanding how populations of neurons in the cerebral cortex encode and exchange information. The laboratory investigates these issues by developing mathematical methods for single trial analysis of neural population responses and by developing biologically plausible neural network models of cortical function and dynamics. The Tactile Perception and Learning Lab (TPLL, www.sissa.it/cns/tactile/),
directed by prof. Mathew E. Diamond, announces the immediate opening of postdoctoral positions.
TPLL is situated in the International School for Advanced Studies (known as SISSA) in Trieste, Italy.
The research is funded by a European Research Council Advanced grant;
salary is competitive and abundant resources are available.
The project will explore  the neuronal basis of tactile perception by
collecting activity with microelectrode arrays from multiple regions
of cerebral cortex in rats as they perform touch-guided behavioral tasks
such as texture classification and vibration working memory.
Manipulating perception through optogenetics is a key aim.
Candidates should have experience in relevant methods
(behavioral training, neurophysiology, optogenetics, computational neuroscience).
