fMRI and psychophysical investigation of cross-modal integration

Applications are invited for a three-year fully funded PhD studentship in the School of Psychology, Bangor University under the supervision of Prof Paul Downing and Dr Simon Watt. The studentship is available from October 1st 2012 (or as soon as possible thereafter) and includes payment of UK / EU level tuition fees, a maintenance allowance of approximately £13,590 and a research allowance of £750 per year for 3 years.

The general focus of the thesis will be in using functional MRI and psychophysical approaches jointly in order to investigate cross-modal integration of visual and haptic signals.

Requirements

Applicants are expected to have a first or upper second-class honours degree or equivalent in Psychology. An MSc in Psychology, Neuroscience, Vision Science, or related disciplines is also a requirement. Some programming skills e.g. in Matlab, and/or experience with research in vision or haptics, are highly desirable. Previous fMRI experience welcome but not required.

Postdoctoral position in Computational/Theoretical Neuroscience

Applications for NIH-funded post-doctoral position are invited for laboratory of Dr. Maxim Bazhenov at the University of California, Riverside. This project aims at understanding how odors and odor concentrations are encoded in the insect olfactory system. It involves close collaboration with laboratory of Dr. Mark Stopfer at NIH. For relevant references see, Assisi et al., Neuron 2011, 69(2):373-86; Ito et al., Neuron 2009, 64(5):692-706; Assisi at al., Nature Neurosci, 2007, 10(9):1176-84. The ultimate goal of this work is to understand mechanisms and functions of biological rhythms and the role of neuronal oscillations and synchrony in information processing.

Successful candidate will be responsible for design and analysis of the network models of olfactory system based on experimental data and data analysis. Qualified applicants are expected to have experience in computational/theoretical neuroscience and conductance-based neural modeling. Programming experience with C/C++ is required. Knowledge of PYTHON or MATLAB is a plus.

Engineer/Postdoc positions at Karolinska Institutet (Stockholm)

Three post-doc positions are now available in our group. KIND is a competence center for research, development and education within the area of developmental psychopathology. The center is established in collaboration between Karolinska Institutet and Stockholm County Council aiming at improving generating high-end basic research, clinical practice, and spread new knowledge to stakeholders.

1) Postdoc in developmental neuroimaging:
The post-doc fellow will be responsible for the neuroimaging part within a project investigating infants with high risk for Autism Spectrum Disorders. This work is funded by the EU AIMS consortium (http://www.eu-aims.eu/#). Functional MRI (activation with auditory stimuli and resting state), as well as myelination assessments are planned, both at 4 and 36 months.

2) Postdoc in cognitive neuroimaging - longitudinal design:
The post-doc fellow will be mainly responsible for the longitudinal neuroimaging assessments within a project investigating twins discordant for Autism Spectrum Disorders. This project is funded by the EU AIMS consortium (http://www.eu-aims.eu). Functional (diffusion, resting-state), as well as structural MRI are planned. The position implies to be involved in the administrative and technical set-up of this follow-up.

3) Engineer/Postdoc in MR spectroscopic imaging:
The post-doc fellow or the engineer will be responsible for the MR spectroscopic imaging part within a project investigating twins discordant for Autism Spectrum Disorders. MRSI-1H MR spectroscopic imaging will be used as a complementary method to resting-state-functional, diffusion and structural MRI. The MRSI part will include the metabolic map reconstruction software development or adaptation of available packages. The MRSI quantification will be based on LCmodel while post processing: metabolic map reconstruction, should be re-designed.

Title: Postdoctoral Fellowship In Neural Correlates of Unconscious Processing, National Taiwan University (Su-Ling Yeh)

We are seeking a full-time postdoctoral research associate to join the Perception and Attention Lab at the National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan (http://epa.psy.ntu.edu.tw/).

The major research topics in our lab include consciousness, attention, multisensory perception, applied research on image processing and displays, and word recognition.

The current position is to conduct research as part of Taiwan’s National Science Council grant awarded to the chief investigator Professor Su-Ling Yeh (Department of Psychology). An ideal candidate should have a PhD in psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience, engineering, or other closely related disciplines. Prior experiences with fMRI experiments and good programming skills are expected.

The contract is for one year initially, with a possibility of two-year extension based on performance. Two Post-Docto​ral Positions in Computatio​nal Neurosc​ience

Applications for two NIH-funded post-doctoral positions are invited for
the Laboratory of Dr. Wilson Truccolo in the Department of Neuroscience at
Brown University, Providence, RI, USA. The first position is for the
development of data-driven stochastic models of multiscale neural dynamics
in human epilepsy. Data consist of simultaneous recordings of ensembles of
single neurons, local field potentials and ECoGs during seizure and
non-seizure states in individuals with intractable epilepsy. The project
involves a collaboration between the labs of Dr. Truccolo and Dr. Sydney
Cash (Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston). The second position is for
the development of stochastic models of intra- and inter-areal network
dynamics in the motor cortex of nonhuman primates performing motor tasks.
The project involves a collaboration between the labs of Dr. Truccolo and
Dr. John Donoghue (Brown University). The ideal candidates for these 2
positions will have a strong background in computational/theoretical
neuroscience and stochastic modeling of neural dynamics. For the first
position, prior experience with epilepsy research is a plus. Inquiries
