Within
the Si-Code European funded project entitled “Towards new Brain-Machine
Interfaces: state-dependent information coding”, we are looking for a
post-doctoral candidate interested in contributing to this exciting
project. The position is available since April 1st 2012 and covers the 36 month project duration.
The
Si-Code project targets the development of a radically new generation
of bidirectional Brain Machine Interfaces (BMIs) employing neural
computational strategies and neuromorphic VLSI devices to discount
variability induced by state changes of current BMI approaches. The
project converges R&D efforts in the fields of neuroengineering,
neuroscience, neuromorphic engineering and neurocomputation and it is
carried out by five leading European partners located in Italy, Germany,
Switzerland and France.
The
candidate will be working in the Department of Neuroscience and Brain
Technologies of the Fondazione Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia in Genova
(Italy). He will be in charge of implementing an experimental setup
combining a high-resolution MEA system and optogenetic tools and will be
performing experimental studies to investigate information processing
in neuronal assemblies. The ideal candidate has either an engineering
University degree in physics or bio-medical engineering with an
expertise in neuroscience and experimental studies, or has a University
degree in biology or equivalent with strong skills in neurocomputation
or engineering.
The
young researcher will be based for most of his/her time at the IIT,
supervised by internationally recognized experts and will have access to
state-of-the-art equipment and laboratories. Proficiency in English is
required. In general, we value scientists with a proactive attitude and
results-oriented mindset, good interpersonal and communications skills
and ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary research
team.
Interested applicants should submit CV, list of publications, a statement of research interests, and two reference letters.
The deadline for the application is the 1st of June, 2012.
