fMRI and psychophysical investigation of cross-modal integration
Prof Paul Downing and Dr Simon Watt

Applications are invited for a three-year fully funded PhD studentship in the School of Psychology, Bangor University under the supervision of Prof Paul Downing and Dr Simon Watt. The studentship is available from October 1st 2012 (or as soon as possible thereafter) and includes payment of UK / EU level tuition fees, a maintenance allowance of approximately £13,590 and a research allowance of £750 per year for 3 years.

The general focus of the thesis will be in using functional MRI and psychophysical approaches jointly in order to investigate cross-modal integration of visual and haptic signals.

Requirements

Applicants are expected to have a first or upper second-class honours degree or equivalent in Psychology. An MSc in Psychology, Neuroscience, Vision Science, or related disciplines is also a requirement. Some programming skills e.g. in Matlab, and/or experience with research in vision or haptics, are highly desirable. Previous fMRI experience welcome but not required.
